Expectations

Community:Here at the Siddique Lab, we believe everyone from any educational or cultural background is a vital addition in keeping the lab productive and contributing to research. We encourage everyone to strive to be a role-model for everyone else in the lab: treat people as you would like to be treated, joke in good taste, and be mindful of others. We believe it is important to enjoy your work and we try to facilitate this as much as possible.

Safety:
While there are designated safety officers in the department, everyone is equally responsible ensuring the safety of yourself and other lab members. First and foremost, you should always maintain respect for the many chemicals, dangerous equipment, and tools we use in the lab. Proper training, PPE, and standard operating procedures should be strictly followed as they are implemented to keep everyone safe.

Communication:
We believe communication between lab members and active participation in lab meetings is key to building a strong team-based foundation in an effort to continually innovate our research. While working independently is critical to developing your personal research project, having supportive mentors and colleagues is crucial to help guide you to be successful. Whether debating ideas or giving constructive criticism, respect towards colleagues should always be maintained.

Work Ethic:
Maintaining the integrity of your work and honesty is paramount in your reputation as a scientist as well as an individual. You will be expected to contribute to lab duties such as maintaining a safe and clean lab space. While most of us have busy professional and personal schedules, you are responsible for managing time spent in the lab. To minimize wasted time and money, please be mindful that experiments are time sensitive, you will be sharing equipment with other members, and lab supplies and reagents are usually expensive.
