Expectations

Community: At Siddique Lab, we believe that everyone, regardless of their educational or cultural background, plays a crucial role in keeping our lab productive and contributing to meaningful research. We encourage every member to strive to be a role model for others: treat colleagues with the respect you wish to receive, maintain good humor, and be considerate of those around you. We prioritize creating an enjoyable work environment and do our best to foster this atmosphere.

Safety:
While the department has designated safety officers, safety is a shared responsibility among all lab members. It’s essential to respect the chemicals, equipment, and tools we use daily. Adhering to proper training, using personal protective equipment (PPE), and following standard operating procedures are critical measures designed to ensure everyone’s safety.

Communication:
Effective communication and active participation in lab meetings are key to building a strong, collaborative team that drives our research forward. While independent work is vital for the development of your personal research projects, having access to supportive mentors and colleagues is equally important for your success. Whether engaging in debates or providing constructive criticism, it’s essential to maintain respect for your peers at all times.

Work Ethic:
Integrity and honesty are the cornerstones of your reputation as a scientist and as an individual. You are expected to contribute to lab responsibilities, including maintaining a safe and clean workspace. While we all have busy schedules, time management is crucial when working in the lab. Be mindful that experiments are often time-sensitive, equipment is shared, and lab supplies can be costly. Efficient use of time and resources is essential to minimize waste and maximize productivity.
